Today marks the 15th anniversary of TRC Knives. If you are familiar with our knives and their names, you know that we have always been inspired by history’s greats. It was particularly the story of Roald Amundsen that encouraged us to create the Polheim knife.

What can be done in 15 years? Inspired by Fridtjof Nansen’s Arctic drift of 1893–96, the young Roald Amundsen dreamed of becoming a polar explorer. In 1896, he joined the Belgian Antarctic Expedition for his first Antarctic research adventure. From 1897 to 1899, Belgica became the first ship to winter in the Antarctic. Later, in 1906, he was the first explorer to complete the legendary Northwest Passage solely by ship. From Greenland to Alaska in his sloop Gjøa – what a milestone! Finally, in 1910, he set sail on his schooner Fram to reach the Bay of Whales. On December 14, 1911, after traversing 1334 km in the Antarctic, he established a base camp at the South Pole and named it Polheim – “Home at the Pole” in Norwegian. All in 15 years.

So, what could be a better choice for our 15th-anniversary knife than the Polheim? In 2010, we also began our journey with a dream – to create the finest knives in the world. Today, 15 years later, we present a knife marking a milestone in our pursuit of perfection. Whether on a polar expedition or at a BBQ, the Polheim will be your faithful companion. With a 100mm hand-ground satin-finished blade, distinctive swedge, and luxury maroon polished Micarta, it combines timeless lines and elegance with top-tier performance and functionality. We used RWL34 as a blade material – one of the most balanced steels ever introduced in the knife industry. It is also time-proven and easy to maintain in the field. Amundsen’s “Home at the Pole” is a symbol of extraordinary achievement in extreme conditions, and so is our knife – robust, functional, and always ready for action.
