The I.C.A. (Industrial Cuchillera Albacetense) brand is one of the most representative companies of the transition from artisanal to industrial cutlery in Albacete during the second half of the 20th century. Although today it is a cult brand for collectors, its history reflects the golden age and challenges of the sector in Spain. It was founded in 1977 in Albacete under the name Unión Cuchillera Albacetense, although commercially it consolidated as I.C.A. (Industrial Cuchillera Albacetense). Its founders and main driving forces were José Giraldo Losa and Pablo Peñarrubia. Its main period under the I.C.A. name spanned from 1977 until the mid-1980s (approximately 1985-86). After this period, the company moved to the Campollano industrial park (the industrial heart of Albacete). Under the sole ownership of José Giraldo, the firm evolved into the GILOSA brand (acronym of Giraldo Losa), which continued the manufacturing legacy of I.C.A. The brand disappeared as such due to the strong competition from Asian products that began in the late 1980s, which stifled many medium-sized factories in Albacete that could not compete on costs.
