Famous American Buck survival knife, model Buckmaster 184. The Buck 184 "Buckmaster" knife is one of the iconic survival knives in history, supposedly made at the request of the US Navy (SEALS). The knife has a blade that is approximately 194 mm long and 7 mm thick and is of the classic Bowie shape. The back edge is partially serrated. It has a saw on the spine of the 80 mm long blade. The blade is forged 425 stainless steel. The fore-end is approximately 6 mm thick, with both ends curved slightly towards the tip. Each end of the fore-end is drilled and tapped, 51 mm long, 10 mm in diameter, designed to allow the knife to be used as an anchor by screwing the two grappling hooks included and tying a rope to the ring included in the thread of the handle pommel. The handle is 102 mm. The handle is 28 mm long and 28 mm in diameter, with serrations and grooves for a secure grip. It is hollow, with a useful internal opening secured by a threaded, also grooved, knob, which seals it with a black rubber ring and is suitable for carrying survival gear. Between the knob and the handle, there is a ring with a hole for attaching a lanyard or a rope for various uses. The total length of this knife is 322 mm, and it weighs 1,000 grams. Regarding the grappling hooks, they can withstand a load of up to 275 kilos. That said, they would be perfectly useful as a hook or anchor, which involves tying a rope to the knob and throwing the knife, although this would not be good for the knife itself and could be dangerous.

The sheath is made of rigid black fiberglass-reinforced plastic. The back of the sheath has an embedded sharpening stone. The heavy-duty black nylon straps used to cover the stone provide security and have an anchor to secure the knife to the leg. The belt or sash attachment includes a quick-release clasp.

There are four finishes on these knives, the most common being a matte steel finish and a black oxide finish. There are also polished or mirror-polished stainless steel blades, and even rare gold-plated versions, and even some with Damascus steel blades. Buck began production of this knife in late 1984, and production went through several variations until its discontinuation in 1997.
