The original TDI series of knives changed many law enforcement officers' idea of what an edged backup weapon could be. With input The original series of TDI knives changed many law enforcement officers' ideas of what a sharp backup weapon could be. With input from tactical knife designer and maker Rick Hinderer, these models have changed all previous thinking!

The original TDI knife was designed by John Benner, founder of the Tactical Defense Institute. A former police lieutenant, drug task force coordinator and SWAT team tactical field commander, Benner has more than 30 years of experience in the law enforcement field. He has developed courses in raid tactics, defensive tactics, and knife programs that are now delivered to law enforcement, military, and civilian groups.

TDI/Hinderer knives are design collaborations between Defense Tactical Institute President and Chief Instructor John Benner and custom knife maker Rick Hinderer, owner of Hinderer Knives. Drawing on their respective combined experiences as a veteran police lieutenant and firefighter/EMT, John Benner and Rick Hinderer have designed knives for real-world emergency situations where a secure grip and quick draw are paramount. It features an ambidextrous, friction-fit fiberglass-reinforced nylon sheath that can be positioned at multiple angles to suit anyone's personal preference.
