This unique replica is a copy of an antique American knife featured on page 115 of "The Antique Bowie Knife Book." The original was made by a New Orleans cutler and featured a handle with ivory plates and silver studs. The words "large" and "elegant" are rarely used to describe a single object, but the knife-making industry of yesteryear produced a fair number of enormous and imposing knives, designed to tastefully display and, possibly, enhance a gentleman's social standing. This large and beautiful replica is a copy of a very fine (and expensive) knife from the American colonial era, featured on page 115 of "The Antique Bowie Knife Book" (published in 1990, and one of the first books to showcase a large collection of some of the world's finest Bowie knives).

This Lasserre Bowie sported an elegant guard with a finger ring. The original Bowie featured a handle inlaid with ivory and silver rivets. This replica uses black buffalo horn and nickel-plated silver fittings. The blade widens slightly towards the sharp point for added cutting power. The upper edge of the blade is honed. The owners of the original knife carefully preserved the sheath and even the accompanying belt, and this reproduction includes both! (Due to logistical difficulties in manufacturing belts of different sizes for a knife, belt, and sheath set, the belt is one size fits all, long enough for waists from 81 to 124 cm.)
