Holmedal is located in a fjord on the western coast of Norway. The village blacksmith transferred the forge to his two sons, Steinar and Sigmund, in 1932. At present, there are at least 60 employees making Helle knives daily. The blade of a Helle knife has three layers of steel. The central core is made of an especially hard steel alloy, while the two sides are made of 18/8 stainless steel. The handle is made of carefully selected birch wood, something very characteristic of Scandinavian knives. The covers are adorned with Scandinavian folk motifs
