Mikov

Mikov, s.r.o. is a world-renowned traditional producer of office equipment, RON brand industrial staples and a wide range of knives and pocket knives. The products are distributed not only in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, but also throughout the world. The company is wholly Czech-owned and prides itself on its historical roots in craftsmanship as it is a company with a long tradition of high-quality cutlery. The company connects to the centuries-old tradition of producing small industrial items and knives in Czech Switzerland, in particular in the cities of Mikulasovice and Lipova. The first manufactory, predecessor of today's factories, was founded in Mikulasovice by businessman Ignaz Rösler in 1794. It produced knives, pipe tips, files, sickles, scythes and tobacco bags. The economic and commercial success of Ignaz Rösler led to an increase in the number of similarly oriented manufactures in the area of ​​Czech Switzerland in the 19th century. Due to his fame throughout the state of Austria-Hungary, this area is known as "Czech Solingen". As part of the industrial expansion, Johann Hille founded a new factory in Lipova in 1863, producing "alobal" thin aluminum sheets and rolled wire. From its humble beginnings it quickly becomes the largest factory of its kind in the entire northern Czech Republic. Production continued successfully even in independent Czechoslovakia, after the disintegration of the monarchy in 1918. The Lipova factory focused on the production of staples and small metal products, while the Rösler factory focused on the production of knives . Production continued even after WWII, despite the displacement of the entire local German population. After 1948, during the era of communism, Mikulasovice was perceived as the center of production of small industry. Two companies emerged from the local factories: Koh-i-noor, which produces office equipment, and Sandrik, which produces knives. The Lipova factory joined the national company Koh-i-noor Mikulášovice. In 1955 the reorganization took place and all the local factories were grouped into a national company "Mikulásovicky Kovoprumysl", which was soon abbreviated as Mikov. The Lipova factory remained his part until 1991, when it was separated and privatized. His path separated from Mikov for some time under several different owners. In 2003, Conmetron, s.r.o. bought the Lipova factory. The company's commercial success with RON office equipment led to the acquisition of the Mikov company in 2017. A new company Mikov, s.r.o. established itself and became the largest Czech producer of office equipment and knives. Currently the Mikov brand offers in its extensive catalog multipurpose knives, hunting knives, automatic knives, combat knives, hunting and outdoor knives and its famous fish-shaped knife.
