The stainless steel used in OPINEL shovels is an optimized grade to ensure both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has an excellent edge and high abrasion (wear) resistance, allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, before needing to be resharpened. Stainless steel has the advantage of being maintenance-free under normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when exposed to an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.).

The handle is injected with a fiberglass-filled polymer, ensuring high resistance to impacts, water, and extreme temperatures (-40°C to +80°C). A ball-free whistle is integrated into the handle (works in all weather conditions) with a power of 110 dB and a range of approximately 300 meters in open air.

Invented by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is found on all folding knives from size 06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transport).
