Spanish Vintage Carraca Nacarina 335

This traditional Spanish folding knife, in the Albacete "estaje" style with 19th-century influences and manufactured around the mid-20th century (1940-1960), boasts an ornamental design of great artisanal and collector value. The blade and engraving are enameled; the stainless steel blade has a straight spine and a curved edge that rises to a pronounced point. It features elaborate etched ornamentation with colored enamel fills (blue and red/almagra) and classically inspired floral motifs. A central cartouche, enameled in dark blue, displays the calligraphic lettering: "DO NOT OPEN ME WITHOUT REASON NOR CLOSE ME WITHOUT HONOR." This historical phrase, originally found on Toledo swords and rapiers, served as an ethical code for self-defense. The decorative border frames the motto amidst geometric "X" shapes enameled in reddish tones and delicate vegetal or acanthus scrolls.

The scales are crafted from mother-of-pearl (celluloid with a pearlescent finish), displaying vibrant, creamy-white pearly reflections. The handle is curved towards the bolster and riveted directly to the inner linings with metal pins. The bolster is finished with a conical steel ferrule that protects the lower end.

The locking and spring system features a lug spring and an external spring fixed to the spine of the handle. Two fins or "lugs" on the upper pivot guide and secure the spring. It has a lever to release the lock and the ratchet gears. The ratchet has 9 positions. Important: This is exactly the same piece shown in the images. It is in good overall condition, but not perfect, given its age.
