Star Sales Canoe 242 Folding Knife. Star Sales (sometimes identified simply as Star or Star Japan on blade stamps) was a historically active distributor or import brand during the 1970s and 1980s. During the Japanese cutlery boom of the late 20th century, many American and European distributors contracted the manufacture of folding knives and pocketknives from specialized workshops in Seki (the historical capital of Japanese cutlery). Star Sales commissioned the production of its pieces from Japanese artisans and then imported and sold them in the North American and European markets. Their knives often bear tang stamps such as "Star Hand Crafted," "Star Cutlery," or simply "Star Japan." The most well-known and sought-after batch of this brand by collectors was produced in 1977. Star Sales manufactured pocket knives (Canoe-style or folding knives) with imitation mother-of-pearl or carved bone handles for American union conventions. These pieces were made of Japanese surgical stainless steel and are now considered collector's items from Seki's golden age. Important: This is a vintage collector's item; they are in very good condition but not factory-fresh. Exactly as you see in the photos.
