Gabriel Berthelemy has been a full-time artisan knifesmith since October 2020. He learned blacksmithing and knifemaking 5 years ago with Florian Baroud, who has been a knifesmith for 20 years. He then trained for several years mainly in the folding knife (knives). In 2020 he had the opportunity to meet David Lespect, who showed him the mechanics of knife locks.
He mainly makes folding knives with the frame lock mechanism as he likes this playful and precise mechanism as well as allowing him great freedom of design lines of his knife blades. He works with all materials, wood, animal or fossil materials, synthetics, ... etc according to the desires or needs of the moment. It is rather a search for harmony between the materials and the general lines that guide his work. What he likes about this activity is the freedom to create and work with materials around a simple object, the knife, but he can choose from many possibilities. He uses many machines for his crafts but for him the important thing is to maintain good manual work, which in his opinion is the soul of the craft knife.
