Guillem Bernat and Apol·lònia Abraham, from a family with a long tradition of knife makers in Sineu, settled in Palma in 1971 to open their cutlery business. Accompanied by their daughters Francisca and Miquela, they initially sold their wares in the Plaça de Pere Garau and at the Les Avingudes flea market. Later, they opened a shop which they managed alongside their market stalls.
For a time, Guillem made custom knives (table knives, kitchen knives, butcher's knives, etc.), sickles, trinxets (a type of knife), saws, and other tools. Upon his death in 1984, his wife and two daughters decided to continue the business.
The Bernat family is one of the few remaining artisans offering Mallorcan pocketknives, knives, trinxets, farming tools, and utensils for both home and professional kitchens. They have a collection of Mallorcan knives of all kinds with handles made of animal bone, horn and wood (trinxet, gatxolla, porquer, etxurat, pescador, d’empeltar and de pastor).
