KVL is a respected Taiwanese knifemaker who uses the KVL Knives brand for his custom, handcrafted work. He is an independent artisan based in Taiwan who specializes in crafting high-end knives and folding knives with a completely artisanal approach. His pieces combine modern technical precision with a strong heritage of traditional, tactical, and utilitarian design. Unlike large Taiwanese factories that mass-produce for American brands, KVL Knives works on a very exclusive scale, producing very small runs or unique, custom-made pieces.
The materials used for his creations are top-of-the-line. For the blades, he typically uses high-end powder metallurgy steels popular among premium artisans (such as M390, CPM-20CV, RWL34, or high-strength tool steels). For the handles, he uses advanced composite materials such as carbon fiber, G-10, micarta, and anodized titanium, as well as traditional materials like wood and horn.
Its finishes are all done by hand, and it is well known for the quality of its surface finishes on the leaves, including acid washes, meticulous hand-applied satin finishes, and complex, highly symmetrical grinds.
