THIERS-ISSARD was founded in 1884 by Mr. Pierre Thiers, a skilled blacksmith with an excellent reputation. The company specialized in the manufacture of pocket knives of exceptional quality. To avoid confusion with other Thiers families, Mr. Pierre Thiers added his wife's name to the company name. Over the years, the manufacture was continued by his son, Mr. Pierre Thiers, and later by Messrs. Louis and Pierre Thiers.
In 1985, the factory was sold to Mr. Gilles Reynewaeter, who continues the tradition of making pocket knives using materials such as horn, ivory, whalebone, and beef bones, as well as a variety of woods. In addition, he introduced the use of tortoiseshell, a material reserved for the nobility and kings, and created razors with carbon damascus blades. He is also developing a range of "unique" razors on demand.
Gilles Reynewaeter, the current president of Thiers-Issard, comes from a family of cutlers. His father founded his own cutlery company in 1948, and Gilles joined the business after gaining experience in sales and accounting. In addition to the THIERSISSARD acquisition, Gilles Reynewaeter bought other cutlery companies, such as Georges Goutte, Pigeat and Perard-Dassaud, as well as the Bost Chatelet foundry.
Thiers-Issard prides himself on his custom work and his expertise in historic metalworking. They have made a wide range of products, from surgical tools to ham saws and vegetable cutting blades. The company is committed to passing on its long experience through generations and is proud to be a French company with an artisanal approach to production.
Thiers-Issard's values focus on quality and craftsmanship. They produce in-house and use materials mainly of French origin. Although they have incorporated new machines into their manufacturing process, the artisan approach remains paramount. The company offers guarantees and after-sales service for all its products, and provides advice to its customers on the selection, use and maintenance of items.
In short, Thiers-Issard is a company with a long history of manufacturing high-quality pocket knives and other cutting products. With a focus on craftsmanship and tradition, the company prides itself on its in-house manufacturing and commitment to customer satisfaction.
